Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Week 280: Northern Lights

Given the incredible display of aurora in the skies recently, our theme this week is the Northern Lights, (or the Southern Lights), and we’d love to see how you have captured them on camera. We will extend the rules to allow images to be entered that have been taken in the last three weeks to be entered! Photographing the aurora borealis is an incredible experience, though there are techniques and photographic tools to help you get stand out images of this outstanding natural phenomenon, so check out the helpful tutorials below. If you’re in the Northern Hemisphere, you’ll be photographing the northern lights, or aurora borealis, and if you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, the southern lights, or aurora australis. Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for capturing new and interesting photos of the aurora are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring shots you can create.

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Zoltan Dobany: ‘Photo taken during night rain and early morning fog.’

This unique capture of water in an interesting and charismatic form is highly engaging. The use of bokeh shows off the subject well, and the reflections are dynamic and pull our eye into the frame. Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
