Weekly Photography Assignment: Sunrise and Sunset

Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Introducing our new Monthly Assignment Winner!

From these weekly favourites, each month we will select one exceptional image, crowning the photographer as the Monthly Assignment Winner. This talented photographer’s captivating image will be shared on our Instagram story and in our newsletter.

Remember to include your Instagram handle in each weekly entry for a chance to be featured!

Week 263: Sunrise and Sunset

Our theme this week is Sunrise and Sunset, and we’d love to see how you can photograph nature in the first and last light of the day. Photography during sunrise and sunset can often result in stunning and captivating images. At these times of day, the sun is positioned at a low angle in the sky, creating warm and soft lighting. This golden hour lighting is more diffused and has a beautiful, warm hue, casting long shadows and adding depth to the scene. The dynamic interplay of colors, coupled with interesting cloud formations, can add drama and texture to your photographs. Perhaps you will look for wildlife to photograph incredible backlit silhouettes. Maybe you will photograph a landscape scene with interesting foreground, and a reflection. Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for capturing new and interesting sunrise and sunset photos are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring shots you can create.

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Animal Faces – and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Mike Vincent: This is a striking and captivating composition, and a highly effective portrait of a beautiful animal face. The decision to allow the subject to fill the frame makes the bird seem larger than life, and holds the viewer’s interest, drawing our eye in to the intricate details captured by this sharp and dynamic wildlife photograph.

Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
