Weekly Photography Assignment: Flowers

Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.
Week 224: Flowers
Our theme this week is Flowers, and we’d love to see what creative images you can take of flowers. Flowers make a fantastic photography subject, and there are so many ways that you can photograph them well. Have a go at backlighting, or using other unusual and creative lighting techniques to help your flower images stand out. Look for new perspectives. Get up close with your macro lens, or stand back and try to photograph an entire wildflower meadow. Look for colours, texture and patterns in the plants around you. Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for creative flower photos are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring images you can create.

Last week’s winner
Last week’s theme was Sunset and Sunrise – and our favourite image this week is:
This week’s winner is this image, captured by B B: ‘Seagulls gather for breakfast as the sun rises.’ We love the use of the rule of thirds in this image. It is a highly effective composition with a beautiful range of tonal sunrise colours that lift our eye through the entire frame. The seagulls are a characterful and engaging subject that help to bring to life and add an elegant complexity and dynamic nature to what might have otherwise been a less interesting scene. Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
