Weekly Photography Assignment: Contrast

Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Introducing our new Monthly Assignment Winner!

From these weekly favourites, each month we will select one exceptional image, crowning the photographer as the Monthly Assignment Winner. This talented photographer’s captivating image will be shared on our Instagram story and in our newsletter.

Remember to include your Instagram handle in each weekly entry for a chance to be featured!

Week 267: Contrast

Our theme this week is Contrast, and we’d love to see how you can photograph contrast between light and dark in nature. You may want to work with contrasting colours, and use a colour wheel or colour theory to find contrasting colours in your compositions. Or, perhaps you will use black and white to enhance the highlights and shadows in your photographs. The sun creates elements of contrast in every scene, and this week we challenge you think about this factor and how it can affect the mood and style of your work as you create your images. Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for capturing new and interesting photos of contrast in nature are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring shots you can create.

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Details – and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Jerome: ‘Cobwebs on early morning backlit fungus’

This intriguing image has met the brief very well, and captured a unique detail in nature! There is much to admire in this composition; the use of light is creative and backlights the subject beautifully. The leading lines of the spider’s web help draw our eye across the frame, and the depth of field allows us to focus on this unusual, engaging feature. Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
