Weekly Photography Assignment: Movement

Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Week 194: Movement

Our theme this week is Movement, and we’d love to see what creative images you can take to showcase movement in nature! Wherever you are in the world, this week we’d like to encourage you to try to capture images of movement in the natural world. Perhaps you will try a long exposure on a moving body of water, or try to capture star trails in the sky, or slow your shutter speeds down while photographing wildlife to showcase the patterns of their motion. Maybe you will even try to use intentional camera movement, to create your own sense of motion! Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or a total newbie, the options for photos showcasing movement are infinite, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring images you can create.

Here are some tutorials to help you:

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Birds– and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Donald Wyllie; ”Little Blue Heron, Orlando Wetlands.’ We love the usual composition of this shot, and the sense of movement created by the shape of the Heron’s neck. The depth of field is also effective and allows us to concentrate on finer details of this species, highlighted further by the evening light. Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
