Weekly Photography Assignment: Fill the Frame

Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Week 229: Fill the Frame

Our theme this week is Fill the frame, and we’d love to see what creative images you can take of nature that fill the frame! This is a unique compositional task, and for those shooting wildlife it will be interesting to see how you’ll choose to frame your subject for the best ‘close up’ look. If you’re photographing plants, try focusing closely on details – leaves, textures, or something else entirely. Get up close and personal with your subjects where you can, or crop your images in afterwards! Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for nature photos that fill the frame are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring images you can create.

Here are some tutorials to help you:

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Fine Art – and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Jonesy: ‘Photo from our photography trip to the lake.’ This is a beautiful Fine Art style nature image. The use of colour is elegant, and the decision to utilise negative space is creative and highly effective, generating a soothing effect that softens the overall mood of the scene. The colour work loosly follows the rule of thirds, but the line of detail at the top of the image attracts our attention and invites our eye to sweep downwards across the frame. Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
