Weekly Photography Assignment: Details

Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Week 204: Details

Our theme this week is Details, and we’d love to see what images you can create of the smaller details found in nature. There are incredibly detailed and intricate patterns to be found everywhere in nature, if we’re willing to go look for them! Perhaps you will photograph a spider’s web, or use a macro lense to capture the patterns in a pond that has frozen over. You might decide to look for patterns up close in leaves, or on the bark of trees. Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or a total newbie, the options for photos of the tiny details of nature are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring images you can create.

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Weather – and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Kezz Houghton: ‘It started to drizzle whilst I was photographing one of my regular Robin models. I was delighted when this little beauty begrudgingly posed for me whilst raindrops collected around it’s eyes and face. It’s only when I came to edit that I noticed the motioned blurred droplets that had also bounced awkwardly off its head! The stare just sums up how we all felt about the weather that day!’ We love the expression and character of this image, and the gentle blur of the rain drops to create dramatic effect. The foreground leaves help lead our eye into the central point of the image, and the depth of field allows for the rain drops to stand out. It is an engaging, amusing portrait of a common species experiencing the weather – a great interpretation of the theme! Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
