Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Week 248: Colours

Our theme this week is Colours, and we’d love to see what fantastic nature photos featuring colour you can take! There are so many options for colourful nature photography. This week, we encourage you to look for contrast in the scenes around you. What colours stand out? How might they influence your images? Depending on the season you’re in, you may find that different colours feature more strongly in the natural world. The time of day that you choose to shoot at will also influence the colours and mood of your images. You may find that there are warmer tones at sunrise and sunset, and cooler tones in the late evening or blue hour. Perhaps you will feature a single bright colour as your subject, like a flower or a bird! Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for colourful images are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring images you can create.

This week’s winner is this image, captured by B B. We love the dramatic use of black and white in this image. It creates a powerful sense of mood and atmosphere, and the leading lines are highly effective in drawing the viewer’s eye across the scene. A fantastic and emotive composition!
