Weekly Photography Assignment: Sunrise and Sunset

Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Week 223: Sunrise and Sunset

Our theme this week is Sunrise and Sunset, and we’d love to see what creative images you can take of nature during first and last light. We encourage you to head out to catch the first or last rays, and see the way that ‘golden hour’ can change the photography oppertunties for your local landscapes and wildlife. Have a go at backlighting, or try long exposure techniques. Try to capture a sun flare, or photograph the reflection of a brilliant sky in a body of water. Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for creative sunrise and sunet photos are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring images you can create.

Here are some tutorials to help you:

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Wildlife Action – and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Tim J Nicol: ‘A tiny green tree frog tucked way down inside an unfurling banana tree leaf.’ We love the use of leading lines in this image, and the use of creative, clever composition. The curved lines in the leaf frame the subject in an unsual and engaging way, and highlight the unique character of the sharp and endearing frog in focus! Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
