Weekly Photography Assignment: Signs of Winter

Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favouritebe featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Week 256: Signs of Winter

Our theme this week is Signs of Winter, and we’d love to see what fantastic nature photos you can take inspired by the winter season. This week, we’re looking for images that represent this season, whether winter is approaching in your neck of the woods, you’re headlong into cold weather, or you’re miles away from it – and longing for cooler days. Perhaps you will look for tiny details in nature, like frost on plants in the morning. Or maybe you will focus on capturing dark and stormy skies, or your favoruite wildlife supjects as they prepare for winter. Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for capturing new and interesting photos of the signs of winter are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring shots you can create.

Here are some tutorials to help you:

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Birds – and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Richard Moss. This characterful and engaging capture really shows off the subject; a bird which may often be overlooked as a photography subject! Here is proof that an engaging and successful image can be composed even with more common species. We love the decision to fill most of the frame with the duck, and the depth of field and focus allow us to focus on the subject’s expressive features.

Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
