Weekly Photography Assignment: Fine Art

Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Week 228: Fine Art

Our theme this week is Fine Art, and we’d love to see what creative images you can take of nature in a fine art style. Trying a fine art nature photography style is a great way to shake up your images! Fine art nature photography is really left to interpretation, but typically it might focus on shapes and patterns, negative space, light and shadow, or bold and contrasting colours. You might expiriment with soft light and unusual compositions, or getting so close to your subject that you obscure them. Look for leading lines and striking scenes in the world around you. You may want to work in black and white. Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for fine art nature photos are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring images you can create.

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Mammals – and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Shayne Kaye: ‘American Pika at Blackcomb, BC, Canada.’ We love the moment captured in this image. It’s full of personality and really tells a story, and encapuslates the character of the species portrayed. The blurred background creates a beautiful effect, with darkening around the edges of the image that draws our eyes into the central subject, which is crisp and engaging! Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
