Weekly Photography Assignment: Colour

Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Introducing our new Monthly Assignment Winner!

From these weekly favourites, each month we will select one exceptional image, crowning the photographer as the Monthly Assignment Winner. This talented photographer’s captivating image will be shared on our Instagram story and in our newsletter.

Remember to include your Instagram handle in each weekly entry for a chance to be featured!

Week 268: Colour

Our theme this week is Colour, and we’d love to see how you can incorperate colour into your nature photography. You may want to work with contrasting colours, and use a colour wheel or colour theory to influence the way you utilise colours in your compositions. Perhaps you will try to focus on one main colour in your image, or to work with two very different ones. There are unique colours to be found everywhere in nature, whether you prefer wildlife, macro, landscape or even underwater subjects! Maybe you will aim to capture the colours you see fully in camera, but perhaps you will also enhance or bring out new ones in your post production process. Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or are new to the genre, the options for capturing new and interesting photos of colour in nature are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring shots you can create.

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Contrast – and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by B B: ‘A couple of Double-crested Cormorants sit on branches under a very overcast sky.’

This image showcases ‘contrast’ beautifully, and shows the way that certain photography techniques can be used to enhance or dramatise a scene. In this case, the low key photography effect has worked very well, with the bright sky allowing our eye to focus on the bold lines, shapes and details of our subject. Contrast at its finest! Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
