Weekly Photography Assignment: Telephoto Landscapes

Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our two favourites to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to force yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Week 66: Telephoto Landscapes

Our theme this week is Telephoto Landscapres. For this assignment, put down you wide-angle lens and try taking a landscape photo using a telephoto lens. Please put in the comments what focal length you used. Here are some tutorials to help you:

Last Week’s Favourites

Our favourite images from last week’s theme, Backlighting. You can see all of the entries here.

I really like the way Pete has used backlighting in this shot. Leaves are a great way to play with light, and this full bunch of subjects means there are plenty of highlights and shadows to explore. The use of black and white adds to this shot I think. I don’t feel that colour would’ve added anything, and instead the monochrome look emphasises the light.

A great backlit behaviour shot – not two easy things to combine! The feather detail is highlighted nicely by the backlighting, and this is what is so good about rim-lighting. It’s a great example of why backlighting works so well with feather and fur.
