Weekly Photography Assignment: Sky

Each week we’ll be giving you a theme that you can submit a photo for, and we’ll choose our favourite to be featured on the Nature TTL website. Participating in these assignments will be a great way for you to encourage yourself to push the boundaries of your photography and improve together as a community on the website.

Week 191: Sky

Our theme this week is the Sky, and we’d love to see what creative images of this great expanse you can create! This week we’d like to encourage you to try to capture the beauty of the sky. It’s up to you to decide on the time of day you’d like to capture, as the sky can be photographed in so many ways…perhaps you will try a panorama and look for interesting cloud formations in the afternoon, or choose to wait up for an amazing sunrise or sunset and capture only a part of it with your long lens, or even try to capture the sky at night! Whether you’re a seasoned nature photographer, or a total newbie, the options for beautiful sky photos are endless, and we can’t wait to see what inspiring images you can create.

Last week’s winner

Last week’s theme was Flowers  – and our favourite image this week is:

This week’s winner is this image, captured by Johan Mocke; ‘During August in the Overberg area of South Africa, farmers have Canola fields in bloom. These yellow flowers make the most beautiful landscape sceneries this time of the year. The Green is grain fields in between.’ We love the way Johan has stepped back to photograph these flowers, and incorporated their beauty into a wider landscape shot. It is not an easy thing to do, but getting a unique perspective on a familiar subject is always a great idea! The use of the rule of thirds in this particular shot frames the flowers well, and draws our eye to their colour-blocked beauty. Well done, and thank you to all who entered!
