Sigma Unveils New 16-28mm f/2.8 Lens

Sigma's new lens - 16-28mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary

Sigma has announced a new full-frame 16-28mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary lens. Available in L-mount and E-mount, the lens offers “uncompromising optical performance in a compact, lightweight body.”

Weighing in at just 450 grams, and a touch over 100mm in length, this practical optic is portable for everyday shooting. With its field curvature correction, it is able to achieve “exceptional” edge-to edge shooting.

With an internal zoom mechanism, the form factor of the lens remains consistent throughout the zoom range. The lens’ centre of gravity also remains constant, which will make it a good choice for use on gimbal systems.

The lens also has an angle of view of 107° – 75.4° (depending on focal length), and has a minimum aperture of f/22. Its minimum focal distance is 25cm.

It is constructed of 16 elements in 11 groups, including five FLD and four aspherical elements which ensure optical image quality with minimal aberrations.

The lens’ constant aperture throughout the zoom range gives photographers a shallow depth of field, and the nine rounded diaphragm blades give a smooth and circular bokeh effect.

A “Super Multi-Layering Coating” ensures that the compact lens delivers high contrast results even in the most difficult of backlit conditions, with reduced ghosting and flare.

To enhance freedom and usability, the lens has a front filter thread built in, allowing photographers to attach neutral density and polarising filters more easily.

Harnessing a stepping motor to control the autofocus actuator, the focus of the lens is both fast and silent.

The Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 lens is available for pre-order for £749.99/$899, and shipping will start from 17 June 2022.
