Sigma Announces 24-70mm f/2.8 Art Lens for Mirrorless

SIGMA has announced the upcoming release of their second all-new “Art zoom” lens, exclusively designed for mirrorless cameras – the Art 24-70mm f/2.8 DG GN. SIGMA promises the lens will deliver “best-in-class performance” alongside “high resolution throughout the entire zoom range.”

Suitable for both professional and advanced amateur photographers, SIGMA reports that the lens size and weight are reduced due to its unique optical design. The 24-70mm f/2.8 DG GN is constructed from six sheets of “F” extra-low dispersion glass materials, alongside two special low dispersion elements.

Through the use of three aspheric lenses, the lens reduces common aberrations such as axial chromatic aberration or saggital coma aberrations. This construction also helps achieve uniformity and precise optical performance throughout the entire zoom range. Flare is also reduced thanks to the addition of both Super Multi-Layer Coating and Nano Porous Coating.

Tailored for both L-Mount and Sony E-Mount cameras, the SIGMA 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN is designed to work seamlessly through a number of design features. For example, a stepping motor and new algorithm gives “a good balance” between acceleration and quietness of the autofocus drive.

It is also compatible with the Eye-Detection AF, which is a key element of many new mirrorless cameras for high-precision focusing.

The minimum focusing distance of the lens is 18cm at wide-angle end, which allows you to come closer to a subject than the end of a lens hood. Maximum magnifications are 1:2.9 at the wide-angle end and 1:4.5 at the telephoto end.

Constructed from a dust- and splash-proof structure, alongside a zoom lock mechanism to prevent the barrel from extending unexpectedly, the lens is suitable for a variety of environments. An AF/MF switch is also on the barrel, to allow for different shooting.
