Nikon Showcase First Ever D850 8K Timelapse

Unless you’ve been living in a canon-shaped cave, you’ve probably caught wind of Nikon’s new D850. Allowing for 8K timelapses through the enormous 45.7MP sensor and integrated Interval Timer, the D850 is likely to usher in a new tide of timelapse creativity. And if like us you can’t wait to witness the D850’s timelapse potential, then you’ll be happy to hear – the wait is over.

Famed Nikon Ambassador Lucas Gilman shot the above video in scenic Iceland with his own pre-production D850. With skies circling bright over jagged mountain peaks, rushing waterfalls pouring into mist-laden lakes, and the moon sailing simple through the midnight sky, the glory of the timelapse does not go unnoticed.

Gilman put the D850 to a grueling test, taking hours to plan and shoot each scene, capturing over 12,000 RAW 14 bit photos for the compilation. Utilising a litany of features including exposure smoothing to eliminate flicker, folder functions for organisation, and exporting the JPEGs using Capture NX-D, Gilman has forged a feature of previously unseen spectacle – adding to the already incredible hype of the D850.

Whilst the video stands alone as unforgettable, the D850’s unprecedented image quality means any frame alone can be blown up and used as a fine art piece. Make sure to check out more of Gilman’s work on his website. If you’re interested in getting your hands on the D850, take a look at the links below – but beware, the first batch is totally sold out (for obvious reasons!).

The Nikon D850 is set for release September 2017 for £3,499 ($3,299), and can be pre-ordered from a number of retailers:
