New Luminar 3 Goes Head-to-Head with Lightroom
Luminar, a photo-editing software created by Skylum, has just announced Luminar 3. This brings the long-awaited Digital Asset Manager which was promised to come in a future update to Luminar 2018. However, you’ll now see it is called Luminar 3. That’s because Luminar 3 is an even bigger update, revamping Luminar 2018 completely.
Already bought Luminar 2018 this year? Don’t worry! Luminar 3 will come as a free update to you when it becomes available on the 18th December 2018.
So what’s the big deal? When Adobe released its Creative Cloud platform, charging users a monthly fee for access to its software (such as Photoshop and Lightroom), a lot of photographers were not happy with becoming “trapped” in a monthly subscription. When Luminar 2018 was released, millions of users quickly downloaded the software as it pushed itself as a key Lightroom alternative.
We reviewed Luminar 2018 earlier this year, and now that the Luminar 3 update is here with the photo library available things should be even better. You can find out all about Luminar by reading this review.
“This has been a long-anticipated update as our users were keen on a fast library function that works with their existing folders,” says Alex Tsepko, CEO of Skylum. “We never replicate what’s already on the market, but look for new approaches to make our app as fast and easy to use as possible. This is only the first of many far-reaching updates, so stay tuned.”
The new Luminar library is a highly customisable image catalog, making browsing, rating, and organising your photos a “joy.” Luminar 3 will include functions such as batch processing, allowing you to sync your edits to one image with a number of others in your library.
Not only that, but Luminar will import and takeover your previous Lightroom catalogs that you have created. Switching platform will no longer be a headache, and you won’t have to suffer that monthly fee: Luminar requires a one-off payment of just $49.
