‘Glowing’ Dolphins Seen Off California’s Coast

Bioluminescent plankton present off of California’s coast have made dolphins appear to “glow” in the water. This incredible footage was captured by Newport Coastal Adventures.

Ryan, the captain of the boat, took out his zodiac at sunset to see the bioluminescence. However, they were treated to an unexpected visit from dolphins, which can be seen “lighting up” in the water.

Disturbing the plankton causes them to emit light, and that is why you can see the waves lighting up in the boat’s wake. The same runs true for the dolphins; as they cut through the water, they are disturbing the plankton which light up around them.

The result? A wildlife spectacle that we are sure nobody on that boat will ever forget. Take a look at the scene in the below video:

You can follow Newport Coast Adventures on Facebook or Instagram, and if you’re ever in California then take a trip with them to see what you can find!
