DJI Phantom 4 Released
Today DJI announced its new addition to the Phantom range of camera drones: the DJI Phantom 4. DJI are known for impressive, affordable drone technology – and we are super excited about this new release. The new DJI model brings with it AI technology and advanced autopilot systems, shaking up the consumer drone scene.
New Flights Systems
Well, it’s definitely impressive on the tin. The Phantom 4 comes with an intelligent computer system that is able to read its surroundings, detecting obstacles and flying itself. Using the screens, you can tap where you want to go or even select an object for the drone to track.
The Phantom 4 reacts to your touch. In TapFly mode, simply tap on the live view on your smart device screen to send it flying in that direction. With Obstacle Sensing Systems you can watch it fly without worry. This is all achieved using 5 extra onboard cameras used for positioning and awareness of the AI system.
Whether you are running, driving, rafting and more, the Phantom 4 uses an advanced combination of computer vision, object recognition and machine learning to track you as you go. Circling a moving object used to only be achievable by the most seasoned of pilots, now everyone can do it with a flick of the thumb. The entire time that ActiveTrack is running obstacle avoidance is too, so it will decide whether it should continue following, avoid an obstacle or simply stop.
The Camera
The Phantom 4 features the ability for 4K video capture at 30 frames per second and full HD 1080p at 120 frames per second. An aspeherical lens with a 94° field of view reduces distortion by 36% and chromatic aberration by 56% when compared to a Phantom 3. A reduced hyperfocal length of one meter allows you to get closer to objects while keeping them in pin-sharp focus.
The Body
The Phantom 4’s sleek, streamlined and highly integrated form minimizes buffeting when flying in strong winds and against gusts from any angle, keeping its movements predictable and precise. A tightly integrated gimbal lifts the center of gravity close to the core, boosting its stability even further. The propellors are even positioned higher to stay out of your shots.
The Battery
High efficiency motors and a custom designed large capacity battery offers 5350mah of power, giving the Phantom 4 a 28-minute flying time. Integrated power management, balanced charging capabilities plus smart charge and discharge protection keep the battery easy to charge and ready to fly at maximum capacity.
Integrated Lightbridge technology allows you to see what the Phantom sees in 720p HD at up to 3.1mi (5km) away. This low latency video transmission technology is extremely resistant to interference, giving you more control over your flight.
Sports Mode
A brand new Sport mode brings responsive controls and the thrill of speed everywhere. An integrated gimbal and new battery positioned to move the center of gravity close to the aircraft’s core combines with raised motors that increase torque reaction, and a reliable flight control system which precisely controls the aircraft’s movement to make flight at high speeds safer.
The Cost
The Phantom 4 is available for £1,229 and will start shipping from March 15th 2016. You can order from the DJI website.
