After the Storm

Most of the seals were bunkered down as the sand blew across the beach, their bodies creating barriers where sand drifts collected. This particular pup seemed so peaceful, sleeping through the storm so I decided to lay down and wait for a break in the weather. I was using a 500mm lens so was able to keep a good distance away and not disturb the pup as it lay sleeping. By now the rain had ceased and the wind was starting to ease. At first the light was very grey with little contrast, but I could see the clouds were starting to break up, and after about 30 minutes fragments of sunlight broke through the greyness. Using my camera bag to steady the lens I was able to get some low level shots of the seal encased in sand, after the storm.
