Find Wildlife Photography Workshops in Peru
Peru is culture-rich and has something for every photographer embarking on a photography holiday or workshop. Make sure that you pack wide-angles, telephotos, and even macro lenses, as you’ll definitely need to use every single one of them during your trip.
Whether you’re going there for the flora, fauna, or the culture, you’re going to be thrown completely out of your comfort zone and you’ll get a host of unique images for it.
Wildlife photography workshops in Peru are unforgettable. Over 60% of Peru is covered by the Amazon rainforest, with the country’s territory claiming 13% of the forest itself. The Manu Biosphere, said to be the most biodiverse place on Earth, is also found in Peru.
Embarking on a photography holiday to Peru’s rainforests will open your eyes to a totally alien world. The national bird, the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, is a bizarre yet captivating animal. Seen at lekking sights bouncing up and down on branches, this vividly orange bird is easily spotted in the canopy.
The Peruvian Amazon rainforest also plays host to spider monkeys, woolly monkeys, howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and many other primates that will fill you with a sense of total fascination. There are also big cats to be found there, with jaguars sometimes spotted along river banks. You might even find the prints of a mountain lion on a forest trail.
Don’t forget to look for the smaller things, too. Frogs, moths, butterflies, caterpillars, and other perfect macro photography subjects are everywhere you look. Some of them have such specific adaptations that they only feed on one type of plant! Some are brown and plain, whilst others are brightly coloured to warn off predators. Either way, you’ll definitely need a macro lens for a wildlife photography workshop in Peru.
Working in the rainforest is dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing, however. It is therefore essential that you embark on a photography tour or workshop with experienced guides and photographers. Never head into the rainforest alone, and ensure that you’re properly prepared for what will be an extremely memorable experience.
