The ultimate African photo safari! Join us on this wildlife photography workshop that combines the best of Botswana and South Africa. Guided by award-winning wildlife photographer Alan Hewitt, you’ll sharpen your skills and go home with an impressive portfolio.
We’ll kick off this photo safari in South Africa’s Timbavati, a collection of private game reserves that border Kruger National Park. The area is an absolute paradise for wildlife photography; animals are habituated to game drive vehicles, allowing for both frequent and high quality viewings. You can expect to photography the African Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino), as well as a great number of other species. Each day, we’ll enjoy two three-hour game drives; one early in the morning, and one late afternoon. In the warm African light these times of day, photographic opportunities are optimal. We’ll be guided by expert guides and trackers, and Alan will be there to help you take the best possible pictures.
In between game drives, there will be a chance to relax at our luxurious lodge, work on your post-production skills, and review your work. And there might be some game viewing from the lodge, too, as it’s situated in the middle of a game reserve.
On the fourth day of our photo safari, we’ll head to Pafuri, just north of Kruger National Park. The transfer is a game drive itself, as we’ll drive through the park for the majority of the day. We’ll stay overnight at a comfortable lodge near Pafuri, and head to the border with Botswana the next morning.
In Botswana, we’ll make our way to Tuli Block, a stunning game reserve with both incredible landscapes and a wealth of wildlife. Here, we’ll enjoy further game drives, and you can expect to photograph lions, many antelope, and large herds of elephants. But we’ll also have the opportunity to do walking safaris, which is a brilliant way of experiencing the African bush. During walking safaris, you’ll be able to photograph smaller species of wildlife, practice some landscape photography, and get exceptionally close to a nearby hyena den.
Your Safari Photography Guide

You can expect to learn about the technical use of your camera, composition, the ins and outs of wildlife photography, and post production. Since we’ll be traveling in a small group, there will be plenty of time for individual assistance, ensuring that, no matter what level you’re at, you’ll improve your skills a substantial amount.
