13-day/12-night Botswana photography workshop that includes the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR), Makgadikgadi Pans and Nxai Pan. Photograph the famous black-maned lions of the Kalahari, cheetah, large herds of gemsbok, springbok and the zebra migration. The perfect safari for the more seasoned safari-goer/photographer.
This tour is held during Botswana’s green season and visits three locations that provide a wilderness experience. Together with excellent game viewing and photographic opportunities. This is a photographic adventure that explores some of Botswana’s lesser visited parks, and one that is largely off the beaten track. The locations visited includes Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR), Makgadikgadi Pans and Nxai Pan.
After a night in Maun we start our safari with a stay for 5-nights in the Deception valley area of the Kalahari. During the green season the plains of the Kalahari come alive with a multitude of different wildlife species, it is during this time that the magic of the Kalahari can be seen in it's full glory. It is here that large herds of Gemsbok and springbok congregate and with this a multitude of other wildlife species. This area is also home to the famous black maned lions, both beautiful to photograph and who have been recorded as some of the largest lions in Africa. Ofcourse its not just lions that can be seen, but also cheetah and if we are very lucky leopard.
After leaving the Kalahari we head to Makgadikgadi, part of the Makgadikgadi Salt pan complex and where we spend 2 nights. This is the location, when at this time of the year thousands of wildebeest and zebra migrate to this area, heading west. Here the predators include lion, cheetah and hyena are also seen, including the illusive brown hyena. With other species also occupying this area. Such as; gemsbok, eland and red hartebeest, as well as kudu, bushbuck, duiker, giraffe, springbok, steenbok, and sometimes elephant.
The tour then finishes with a visit to 3-night visit Nxai Pan National Park, that also makes up the Makgadikgadi pan complex. During the dry season the area is a dry and desolate land, yet in the period of December - April plenty of wildlife is attracted to the area. Here we are likely to see many of the species listed above, with this location providing opportunities to also photograph elephants visiting the waterholes that have been filled by the rains. We then head back to Maun, with a further night’s stay in a comfortable lodge, before making our journeys home.
